This is a strong point, and one I didn’t consider when looking at purchasing Expedia vs. Delta airlines stock for example, and weighing the short and long term impact on the industry.

I think when it comes to flights, intermediaries will suffer as most major airlines have consolidated and offer free cancellations themselves. I’ve always found booking airfare through intermediaries to be a pain in the ass (though i love flight info aggregators like — Google Flights/Kayak).

For sleeping accommodations, I agree that the intermediaries will see an uptick since individual hotels don’t have the proper systems in place to easily cancel & refund bookings.
