Ultimately, solving for bias is going to take a lot more than tackling it at the algorithm level. Humans are innately bias. Removing it may be a lofty goal, but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t collectively work towards it.
I agree transparency and diversity are crucial steps forward. But what do we do to correct historically bias datasets, like in credit decisions? How do we create new datasets when our current societal constructs haven’t allowed for it?
In order to correct algorithm bias, historical societal injustices caused by human bias need to play a role or else we will continue to end up in the same place.
