Is it really a Medium problem, or…are we the problem?
I think ultimately it’s the law of numbers. As Medium has grown, it has attracted a more diverse group of people, and as a result, the most consumable content for the most # of people performs the best. Look at what happened to Mashable — funny to think it was once a reputable technology publication.
I applaud what Medium is doing, bringing new perspectives to the world, through the art of stories, allowing anyone to have a voice, and build an audience. And as a new writer on here, I am thankful they exist.
It’s the challenge with any algorithm, it learns and feeds on what humans engages with, and ultimately, that’s what is going to make Medium money in the future.
